How the film works

No magic, no fog — a protection film is materials science you can inspect. Here is what each layer does and why the chemistry matters.

The four-layer build

Surface protection film

The chemistry in detail

Self-healing, explained honestly

The topcoat is an elastomer that flows back to level when warmed above its glass transition temperature. Sun on a parked car is usually enough; warm water or a heat gun accelerates it. What heals: wash marring, light swirls, fine scratches confined to the topcoat. What doesn't: cuts that reach the TPU body. The film takes that damage so the paint underneath doesn't.

Non-yellowing is a chemistry choice

Yellowing killed the reputation of early PPF. It happens when UV breaks down aromatic polyurethanes or PVC plasticisers. Our clear films use aliphatic TPU — the same class of chemistry used in aerospace coatings — which is colour-stable under UV by design, not by additive. That's why we can put non-yellowing in the warranty.

Impact absorption

TPU is an elastomer: a stone strike deforms the film, the energy spreads laterally, and the film rebounds. That's the mechanism that stops chips. Thickness matters — it's why our films step up in build from Plus to XPro+ and why we publish thickness per SKU on the datasheet rather than one vague number.

Hydrophobic topcoats

On XPro and XPro+, the topcoat is modified to lower its surface energy, so water beads and carries dirt off with it. The practical result: cars stay cleaner between washes and dry faster after them. It is a surface property of the film itself — not a coating your customer has to re-apply.

Nano-ceramic window film

Our window films disperse inorganic ceramic nanoparticles in the film body. Ceramics absorb infrared (heat) while staying optically clear and electrically neutral — so unlike metallised films, GPS, toll tags, radio and 5G pass straight through. UV block exceeds 99% across the range.

Adhesive that lets go

The acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive is tuned for two moments years apart: install day, when it must allow slide and reposition before setting, and removal day, when it must release from the paint cleanly with heat. Residue-free removal is a design requirement, not luck.

FAQ

Technology questions

What is the difference between TPU and TPH film?

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is the premium PPF substrate: elastic, impact-absorbing and stable across temperature. TPH is a PVC-hybrid material that costs less but hardens, shrinks and yellows sooner. Smart PPF clear films are TPU.

Why do cheap films turn yellow?

Aromatic polyurethanes and PVC-based films break down under UV, which shows as yellowing — most visible on white paint. Aliphatic TPU chemistry, used in our clear films, does not have that failure mode.

Will PPF damage my paint when removed?

No — on factory paint in sound condition, a properly installed film removes cleanly with heat. The acrylic adhesive is engineered to release from the paint side first, leaving no residue.

How long does PPF last?

Service life depends on climate, wash habits and film grade. The warranty term for each film is listed on its product page and the warranty page — that is the number we stand behind in writing.
